„Displace“ – the compendium of ideas, newly published by Vilnius Academy of Arts in collaboration with Lithuanian Interdisciplinary Artists' Association, will be presented at the project space “Malonioji 6” this Wednesday, 1 April 2015. On this occasion a book binding workshop will be organised on the same day. Migrating Art Academies' project initiators and participants, editor-in-chief and editors – Mindaugas Gapševičius, Alvydas Lukys, Vytautas Michelkevičius, Žilvinas Lilas, Lina Rukevičiūtė and others will be present.

“It is first of all presented as a source for any and all emerging artists who search for a means of creating, nurturing, and manifesting their ideas. Secondly, it is meant as a source for inspiring and fresh perspectives for professional artists experiencing a creative block or who are stuck in unproductive patterns of thought. Finally, for those seeking to understand contemporary art and its challenges, it constitutes an excellent window into the surprising variety of practices with which the participating artists addressed the issues that confronted them.” - says the editor-in-chief Mindaugas Gapševičius. The 512-page book reflects the four-year long experience of Migrating Art Academies project, through the documentation of work and ideas of participants.

The book-binding workshop will focuss on re-binding the „Displace“ book. Artist Matas Dūda will introduce the participants to skills, tips and possibilities of book binding. The participants will be able to bind their own unique version of „Displace“.

Please register by email info@migaa.eu if you would like to take part in the workshop. Places are limited. No specific knowledge required. Please include a brief motivation.

The presentation event will end with a performance by Finnish sound artist Jukka Hautamäki, who is currently taking part in Migrating Art Academies project „Forensic Flâneur“ in Kaunas. Jukka Hautamäki works with used objects, electronics, light, sound and video. His sound performances are a microscopic investigation into electronic sound.

The Migrating Art Academies platform is aimed at innovation and experience exchange in art teaching and research. „Displace“ is supported by Lithuanian Council for Culture, Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Lithuania, European Union Culture Programme and the Nordic Culture Point. The event is organised in collaboration between Vilnius Academy of Arts, Department of Photography and Media Art, and Lithuanian Interdisciplinary Artists' Association.
